China Healthcare Markets Report 2022: Healthcare Demand Will Continue to Grow Around 11% by 2031 – ResearchAndMarkets.com | Nation/World

DUBLIN–(BUSINESS WIRE)–July 7, 2022–

The “Health Care Markets in China” report has been added to the ResearchAndMarkets.com offering.

Focus on China’s healthcare for 1.3 billion people

Over the past two decades, the healthcare industry has grown at a rapid pace. Providing health care to 1.3 billion people is a formidable challenge. Dramatic expansions in the healthcare system, drug manufacturing and health insurance have transformed Chinese society and economy.

Life expectancy reached 76.8 years for women and 72.5 years for men, compared to 69.9 years for women and 66.9 years for men in 1990. The demographic transition from high mortality to low mortality has contributed to increasing life expectancy. Primary diseases have also changed from infectious to chronic. Cancer, heart disease and cerebrovascular disease are now the leading causes of death. Health expenditure now represents more than 5% of GDP and will continue to increase over the next decade.

Health care reform has been high on the government’s agenda in China. Due to the rising cost of health care, more than 10% of income is spent on health care, which is higher than that spent on education and transportation. The increase in the cost of health care would certainly result in the high cost of drugs.

There are approximately 4,500 pharmaceutical companies in China, the majority of which are small players with limited reach in the local market. Rapid consolidation among medium and large players in the industry is expected as the Chinese government encourages industry consolidation in an effort to regulate the industry and better control drug prices.

Biotechnology is a rapidly growing sector in China. Production and demand have seen significant increases in recent years. China will remain a major importer of biotech pharmaceuticals to meet growing domestic demand. Major imports include biotech vaccines, CSF, r-EPO, recombinant human insulin, recombinant human growth hormones, recombinant interferon and other biotech pharmaceuticals.

The health insurance industry in China consists of two main parts, namely government-controlled social health insurance and commercial health insurance provided by private companies. Currently, social health insurance is undergoing reforms to control rising health care costs. The development of commercial health insurance in China is not insufficient. But the commercial health insurance market has great potential for growth. Today, China has the largest healthcare market in the world. The Chinese healthcare industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in China, growing in double digits every year. Huge, fast-growing markets for imports and business opportunities for businesses around the world.
